Oil and Filter Options

Maximum engine protection at minimal cost.  Oil is the lifeblood of your engine. 

• It reduces friction, lessens wear, lubricates metal engine parts.
• It forms a seal between the pistons, rings and cylinder walls 
• It  helps to cool engine parts. 
• Without the cleaning action of fresh oil, carbon and varnish buildup would be toxic to the engine.

Oil filters work to sift out particles to keep contaminants out of your oil.  You need clean oil to easily move through your engine to be effective.  

Dirty or clogged oil filters allow contaminants to sail straight to your engine where they can cause damage as well as affect fuel economy. You also risk blocking the flow of oil to your engine, which could result in engine failure.

• Different Manufacturers have different recommended intervals for your specific model and type.  These  are published in your Drivers Manual.
• Driving conditions make a difference
• Age and mileage of the car makes a difference
• And your personal driving style matters

There are many variables that affect your vehicle.  Always use your manufacturers published guidelines as a starting point.  It should be noted that the driving conditions in Trinidad and Tobago pushes your vehicle recommended service intervals into the "extreme" category.

Always check with your Federal Service Manager.  Our Service Manager will work with you to ensure that our recommendation on type of Oil and Filter is the correct type for your:

• Vehicle Model
• Vehicle Age
• Vehicle Type (Diesel, Gas, Hybrid)
• and your personal driving profile.

The following guidelines can be used for general reference:

• Cars that use Petroleum Based Oils:  Every 3 months or 5,000 km (suited for Trinidad's harsh driving environment).
• Cars that use Synthetic Oils: Every 10,000 km (suited for Trinidad's harsh driving environment).
• For Cars that drive less than 5,000 km per year:  At least once a year
• Definitely come in if your Check Engine light or Oil Indicator comes on!!!

The service intervals above may appear different than those of your manufacturer.  That is because we must adjust for our local driving conditions.  Manufacturers refer to the following as "severe" conditions and increase the frequency of recommended service:

• Extreme hot weather
• Stop and Go driving
• Lots of miles on dusty, muddy, salty, sandy, or gravel roads

Additional personal driving habits can contribute to additional wear and tear:

• Short trips of 10 km or less
• Driving at low speeds for long distances (traffic)
• Additional loads (e.g. trailer towing)
• Hard acceleration and Hard braking.
